Our aim is to provide a thrilling and affordable training experience.
Each event is monitored so that we can continue to improve on the facilities, procedures and overall experience for the riders and their horses. Riders are surveyed to provide the opportunity for attendees to have an input to shape future events.
On this page you can see some of the feedback we have received and why many riders come back time and time again.

Caroline and Amy Macfarlane Faye Gould - Sept Somerford 2011
Thanks for a fantastic fun weekend at Somerford. Great weather, wonderful people and top class facilities. I thought the ear pieces were a great idea - especially with the strong winds, which would otherwise have made it very difficult to hear the instructors. I thought Lionel Dunning was amazing, I came out of both his lessons beaming from ear to ear and completely inspired, and I loved hearing his tales of years gone by. I really hope he will be on the bill at future camps! Thanks again xVictoria Ellis - Sept Somerford 2011

However I was blown away yet again. Sarah Johnson remains to be top notch and am going back to her as an instructor after a few year with someone else and Lionel was just world class. Bit hard to get used to in the beginning but by God did he teach you how to showjump!!!!! Nicky & Mickey xx Jane Fraser - Positive Partners Camp 201 Hi Jane just a note to thank you and your team for all your hard work over the weekend. We had a brilliant time and would love to come back. I think the concept of a camp primarily for leisure riders and happy hackers like me and monty works really well - and the social side was great too. All the best, Jane Ruth Hughes - Positive Partners Camp 201 Hi Jane, I forgot to fill in one of the feed back forms so I will say here that the food was great, so was the support, and the trainers. My sons said when they arrived to escort me home that the atmosphere was very happy! The only fault I can say was the crap weather on Sunday. Having come to riding in my late teens I missed out on pony club camp, this definitely filed that gap! Both my horse and I really enjoyed ourselves even though he was a little \"shell shocked\" but the main thing is he settled each time he came out and it was a very good positive experience for him. So thank you for all your hard work!!! I liked to be put on the waiting list for jump camp 9-11 Sep please. Once again thanks for a great weekend! THANK YOU so much for an amazing camp, we (Moo and I) really enjoyed ourselves, and I'm getting there with my bravery, don't think I would have even bothered trying to jump again if it wasn't for camp, it's given us both a lot to work on, and a new enthusiasm we wouldn't have found on our own. x Sharon Smith - Sept Somerford 2010 Do you know, I get as much out of the workshops as the camp! Caroline from Baileys at the last camp told me to insist my vet took Sam's weight loss seriously, it turns out after a visit to Leahurst that he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The Cyclo ssage man said that Sam obviously has stiffness in his back (again my vet has previously said there was nothing wrong) so I got an osteopath out when I got home and after one £50 session, he doesn't need lunging before jumping any more. Anyway, sorry for the essay but I just thought I'd let you know how much I get out of your brilliant camps! I also went out for the day yesterday to Osberton Horse trials with a girl I met on the last camp so I also made some great friends too! Xx Susie Widley - Willerby 2010 Jane, I just wanted to drop you a quick line and say thank you for organising the Willerby Hill Camp – the facilities were excellent and I know everyone I spoke to said what a great camp it was and how good the facilities were. Good morning Jane. Just a quick email to say a big 'THANK YOU'! Alfie and I had a fantastic time and have both returned home exhausted but full of excitement! Seriously, it was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the camp. Despite all your reassurances prior to the camp I was not wholly convinced it was going to live up to all my expectations! Can I say, it far exceeded them! I met some fantastic people and horses and can't thank you enough! The biggest thing for me was the flexibility of the lessons and I don't know how you could ever get that over to everyone but it is an enormous selling point. Best wishes and hope to see you at the Event Camp. Stephanie Campey - Sept 2009

DRESSAGE ROUND THE CAMPFIRE In the rare sunshine in what has been a decidedly wet summer, 36 riders enjoyed the first British Dressage North West Active Rider Dressage camp. Based at Myerscough over three days they were treated to one‐on‐one tuition, group sessions, and coaching sessions. The British Dressage Active Rider Camp is now going to be an annual event on the British Dressage North West events calendar and was attended by Sue Harcombe Rider Training Representative and was used to help identify some riders to represent the region in the Senior Home International in October. Several NW team riders attended hoping to make an impression Some of the riders that were so successful at the Senior Inter‐regional competition in May took part in the camp hoping to secure a place for the Home International. They included Kathy Miller, fresh from her second place in the Novice Restricted at the NW Regionals, Jo Andrews returning with a sixth and 10th in the Prelim at the regionals, Rebecca Sargent with a 12th in the Prelim and Lucy Clothier with an 11th in the Novice Restricted. Jane Walker who runs the Active Rider side of the partnership arrangement and delivered the camp, said: “It really was a packed programme from the teambuilding session when people arrived to the final workshop, it really was non‐stop. “The tuition provided by the top judges and trainers who support the regional training programme made it an intense and exciting three days.” Among the events at camp was training by NW clinic regulars Helen Bradley and Kate Attlee together with Sarah Probin, Fiona Lace, Clive Halsall, and Dianne Breeze. There was also an opportunity to learn how to deal with the pressure of competition with coaching by Christine Worthington and how to prevent rider injuries with Alison Leach. One attendee Rachel Evans said: “I would definitely recommend this to anyone who would like to improve their flat work and make great friends.” British Dressage North West Regional Development Officer Elaine Gray said: “This camp has been an outstanding success and Active Rider have done a brilliant job. We are sure this will be a really successful partnership between British Dressage and Active Rider and we have already booked the date for next year. We are also discussing developing further themed camps so that we can run two or perhaps three camps a year.” If you want to enjoy the opportunity put the 5 to 7 August 2010 in your diary as Myerscough International Arena will be the venue again. Kath Miller - BD NW Camp 2009
Kath Miller shares her thoughts about the British Dressage Active Rider Camp…. I was lucky enough, recently, to be one of 32 riders who took part in the British Dressage Active Rider Camp. It was held at Myerscough and was the brainchild of NW Region’s Dynamic Duo Elaine Gray and Sue Harcombe, working in partnership with Jane Walker from ActiveRider.co.uk. This was the first of its kind in as much as it was solely dressage. "Active Rider" do many camps throughout the year where you can combine other disciplines. I've done many at Somerford Park and have become a bit addicted to them as they are so much fun. Fun with a capital F was the order of each day at this BD Camp (or was it Boot Camp?). Two lessons a day, a test riding session (one of which is videoed by Cenetur Biomechanics Gait Analysis), various workshops including Sports therapy for riders, Worthington Coaching, Gait Analysis and free sessions on the Mobiliser massage bed (mmmmm), free tea and coffee (and Cappuccino..Hoorah), help from Baileys Horse Feeds AND evening meal included in the price.. There was the chance to have an half hour Sports Massage for £10 (bliss) from the Sports Therapist who was also taking one of the workshops. The venue was excellent with 3 outdoor schools, 2 indoor and very comfortable stabling for horses. The weather was glorious (were we really in England?), the instruction was unbelievable....where else would you get List 1 & 2A judges and top riders/trainers in one place at one time instructing and advising you AND making it fun? The camaraderie between all of us "in‐mates" was superb. Different types of horses and riders of various levels and abilities, all of us there for one reason...to learn and improve (and share some wine in the evening) The atmosphere in the evenings as we sat out in the late sun with our wine, reminiscing over the days activities, was one of contented tiredness (especially Judie Adcock who was crazy enough to take 2 horses AND ride them both herself....well done Jude!) It was a fabulous camp. I learnt so much and had such a great time....roll on 2010 and the next one and hope to see you there This is a camp that comes highly recommended. . Rebecca McNair missed out on Pony Club Camp, but made up for it at Myerscough! I have always felt I missed out on a momentous induction into the horse riding community; I never attended a Pony Club Camp. The moment I saw the advertisement for the North West British Dressage Active Rider my credit card was flexed and I signed up immediately. Pony Club Camp with Dressage, what more could a girl ask for! We had a bursting schedule of workshops, training, test riding and some great guests. The first evening introductions were made and the programme for the next few days was laid out. After a glass of wine (or several) and a team building game in which we learned to spell Anky Van Grunsven we headed to our beds, eager for dawn. Each day consisted of a pairs lesson with either Kate Attlee or Diane Breeze and a test riding clinic . From the start of my lesson with Kate she identified my ‘braced’ riding position. Kate had me flapping my elbows like a chicken, much to the onlookers’ amusement, and told me to make sure I had air (not Hair) underneath my armpits. What initially seemed nothing more than a comical performance soon made an enormous impact on my position and as a result my mare’s way of going improved and I felt a true sense of achievement with a clear plan mapped ahead. The test riding clinics were taken by high listed experienced judges. At first I was slightly nervous about riding a Novice test as we are only just working at this level, but my judge, Sarah Probin, soon put my mind at ease and offered advice before we started. Everyone had one of the test riding clinics filmed by Russell Guire of Centaur Biomechanics. Following the final halt, the rider and judge watched the video and the judge then explained why they had given the marks and comments for each movement. Russell later shared with us a glimpse of his research into the biomechanics of the horse through a workshop held on Saturday evening. Throughout the weekend, the workshops were repeated to allow us all the opportunity to visit each of them. Christine Worthington of Worthington Coaching and Mentoring offered some fantastic suggestions on how to keep focussed when competing and now rather than saying, “I will try to ride better” I must now say, “I will ride better”. One workshop which attracted a lot of interest was that held by Alison Leach, a sports therapist who also offered sports massage sessions which filled up before I had even put my horse back in her stable! We were joined by Caroline Dickens, the Baileys Horse Feeds advisor. She brought her beautiful mare, Jazz, with her to participate on the camp but she never was too busy to offer feed advice to anyone who asked for it. The North West British Dressage Camp truly surpassed all expectations. The only problem was that it went far too quickly and I did not want the experience to end. See you all at the next camp! Tonya Elgenia - BD Myerscough 09 I came and it was informative, friendly and fun! Helen Randall - MKEC 09 I left with a smile from ear to ear. Pleased with the tools given to go away and try. Although it was exhausting I can honestly say that I have never spent so much quality time and had so much fun with my horse. Ive already persuaded two friends to come next year! Kristy Lavin - Heathcroft Stud - Oct
Hi - thought you may like some feedback on our recent visit to Heathcroft stud on our two day visit. The stud facilities were excellent and from the minute you drove thru the front gates you realised that Adrian ran a 'very tight ship'. Everything was spick and span - not a piece of straw or bit of pooh was out of place. The weather for our weekend was quite poor but we did everything we needed to do in the indoor - the Martin Collins surface was fab. Our flat work lessons with Tori were particularly good (we have a young horse so were not going to attempt much jumping) and we have arranged with her to carry on having lessons at her yard in Cheshire. Adrian made us feel very welcome and, to our surprise, had arranged a nice hot lunch on the Saturday afternoon. We opted not to have a jumping lesson on the second day and Adrian was very accommodating to our needs and he agreed that he would use this lesson to show us how to use (correctly) the Pessoa training aid. Many thanks for putting on this camp and I hope to attend other Active Rider camps in the new year - carry on the good work.
Kind regards Kristy, Beverley and Percy!

Karen Lewty BHS NW Development officer Dear All, Just a quick note to thank you for all your efforts which played a huge part in making the weekends event such a resounding success. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with such a wonderful team. Thanks especially go to Jane for her vision and expertise in masterminding the event and of course to all the trainers and presenters for sharing their wonderful experiences with us and for making the days such a pleasure. There were lot's of others, throughout the event, for whom I do not have contact details, so I would be grateful if you could pass on my good wishes and thank them for all their efforts. So many people have made a special effort to get in touch personally to say how much they enjoyed and benefited from attending and I have no doubt that this invaluable experience will have a positive effect on their future development and enjoyment in equestrian sport. It was a real team effort and I thoroughly enjoyed working with you all and meeting new acquaintances. Once again, many thanks, I do hope that we all get the chance to work together again in the near future. Best Wishes, Karen Annette Birley - Kelsall Hill BHS Horsec Hi Jane, Just a quick email as I did not complete a feedbak form on Sunday. What can I say, it was fantastic. Charlotte Melvin- Kelsall Hill BHS Horse it was excellent and I want to come back! Pat Smith - Kelsall Hill BHS Horsecamp Hi Jane, Thanks for organising such a great weekend. I had been almost on the verge of not going as I didn’t think I would fit in. Everyone was so helpful and friendly and the trainers were great. I know you must have put a huge amount of work in to get everything to run so well without people feeling they were being regimented. Al Fin and I were both very tired at the end of it but we learned loads. So pleased to find a kindred spirit in Shelley who came on the farm ride with me. Thanks again, Pat Claire Price - April 08 Horsecamp Just to note to say how much I enjoyed camp at Somerford Park last weekend, it has given us much confidence, I rode last night after giving Sonnet a couple of days off and the difference was amazing, my new found skills coupled with her enthusiasm was magic! Hi, Thanks for a great camp learnt loads from Mia an excellent instructor, going to book on again and bring more friends. Sue Corfield - cancelled April Horsecamp
I would just like to thank you for your kind offer to allow me to change my camp date to Sept following Ted's accident in the horse trailer on the way to camp last Friday. It was a terrible experience. Fortunately, Ted is making a fast recovery and this fact combined with your kindness in allowing us to attend a later camp at no extra cost has really brightened my week. It is unusual these days to find such integrity. Thank you. Regards, Sue Corfield (AR response - we could do this because the camp was full and we replaced her that day, Sue will pay a £20 nominal fee to cover our costs - thanks to our revised T&C's). Katie Shortland - April 08 Horsecamp
I had a fantastic time and realised how much I want to to dressage and how well I can do! Elaine Hardy - April 08 Horsecamp
