TestimonialsOur aim is to provide a thrilling and affordable training experience. Each event is monitored so that we can continue to improve on the facilities, procedures and overall experience for the riders and their horses. Riders are surveyed to provide the opportunity for attendees to have an input to shape future events. On this page you can see some of the feedback we have received and why many riders come back time and time again. Just a quick email to say a big 'THANK YOU'! Alfie and I had a fantastic time and have both returned home exhausted but full of excitement! Seriously, it was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the camp. Despite all your reassurances prior to the camp I was not wholly convinced it was going to live up to all my expectations! Can I say, it far exceeded them! I met some fantastic people and horses and can't thank you enough! The biggest thing for me was the flexibility of the lessons and I don't know how you could ever get that over to everyone but it is an enormous selling point. Best wishes and hope to see you at the Event Camp. Stephanie Campey - Sept 2009 I came to learn something new and to be challenged to better myself. The organisation had very friendly people and made you feel at home.I will be back next year with more friends. Thanks Caroline Hill - Sept 2009 The info received before camp was great for someone who hasn't been before. Veronica Tobin - Sept 2009 Lydia Ebdon - Sept 2009 Katherine Payne - Sept 09 Hi Jane - I just wanted to thank you for your efforts in making sure the September camp at Somerford Park ran so smoothly I had a really good time and everything seemed to happen just so easily, which means it was really well organised. Thank you! Elaine Gray - BD NW Development Officer DRESSAGE ROUND THE CAMPFIRE Jane Walker who runs the Active Rider side of the partnership arrangement and delivered the camp, said: “It really was a packed programme from the teambuilding session when people arrived to the final workshop, it really was non‐stop. “The tuition provided by the top judges and trainers who support the regional training programme made it an intense and exciting three days.” Among the events at camp was training by NW clinic regulars Helen Bradley and Kate Attlee together with Sarah Probin, Fiona Lace, Clive Halsall, and Dianne Breeze. There was also an opportunity to learn how to deal with the pressure of competition with coaching by Christine Worthington and how to prevent rider injuries with Alison Leach. One attendee Rachel Evans said: “I would definitely recommend this to anyone who would like to improve their flat work and make great friends.” British Dressage North West Regional Development Officer Elaine Gray said: “This camp has been an outstanding success and Active Rider have done a brilliant job. We are sure this will be a really successful partnership between British Dressage and Active Rider and we have already booked the date for next year. We are also discussing developing further themed camps so that we can run two or perhaps three camps a year.” If you want to enjoy the opportunity put the 5 to 7 August 2010 in your diary as Myerscough International Arena will be the venue again. Kath Miller - BD NW Camp 2009 Kath Miller shares her thoughts about the British Dressage Active Rider Camp…. I was lucky enough, recently, to be one of 32 riders who took part in the British Dressage Active Rider Camp. It was held at Myerscough and was the brainchild of NW Region’s Dynamic Duo Elaine Gray and Sue Harcombe, working in partnership with Jane Walker from ActiveRider.co.uk. This was the first of its kind in as much as it was solely dressage. "Active Rider" do many camps throughout the year where you can combine other disciplines. I've done many at Somerford Park and have become a bit addicted to them as they are so much fun. Fun with a capital F was the order of each day at this BD Camp (or was it Boot Camp?). Two lessons a day, a test riding session (one of which is videoed by Cenetur Biomechanics Gait Analysis), various workshops including Sports therapy for riders, Worthington Coaching, Gait Analysis and free sessions on the Mobiliser massage bed (mmmmm), free tea and coffee (and Cappuccino..Hoorah), help from Baileys Horse Feeds AND evening meal included in the price.. There was the chance to have an half hour Sports Massage for £10 (bliss) from the Sports Therapist who was also taking one of the workshops. The venue was excellent with 3 outdoor schools, 2 indoor and very comfortable stabling for horses. The weather was glorious (were we really in England?), the instruction was unbelievable....where else would you get List 1 & 2A judges and top riders/trainers in one place at one time instructing and advising you AND making it fun? It was a fabulous camp. I learnt so much and had such a great time....roll on 2010 and the next one and hope to see you there This is a camp that comes highly recommended. Rebecca McNair - writes for Farmers Guar Rebecca McNair missed out on Pony Club Camp, but made up for it at Myerscough! I have always felt I missed out on a momentous induction into the horse riding community; I never attended a Pony Club Camp. The moment I saw the advertisement for the North West British Dressage Active Rider my credit card was flexed and I signed up immediately. Pony Club Camp with Dressage, what more could a girl ask for! We had a bursting schedule of workshops, training, test riding and some great guests. The first evening introductions were made and the programme for the next few days was laid out. After a glass of wine (or several) and a team building game in which we learned to spell Anky Van Grunsven we headed to our beds, eager for dawn. Each day consisted of a pairs lesson with either Kate Attlee or Diane Breeze and a test riding clinic . From the start of my lesson with Kate she identified my ‘braced’ riding position. Kate had me flapping my elbows like a chicken, much to the onlookers’ amusement, and told me to make sure I had air (not Hair) underneath my armpits. What initially seemed nothing more than a comical performance soon made an enormous impact on my position and as a result my mare’s way of going improved and I felt a true sense of achievement with a clear plan mapped ahead. The test riding clinics were taken by high listed experienced judges. At first I was slightly nervous about riding a Novice test as we are only just working at this level, but my judge, Sarah Probin, soon put my mind at ease and offered advice before we started. Everyone had one of the test riding clinics filmed by Russell Guire of Centaur Biomechanics. Following the final halt, the rider and judge watched the video and the judge then explained why they had given the marks and comments for each movement. Russell later shared with us a glimpse of his research into the biomechanics of the horse through a workshop held on Saturday evening. Throughout the weekend, the workshops were repeated to allow us all the opportunity to visit each of them. Christine Worthington of Worthington Coaching and Mentoring offered some fantastic suggestions on how to keep focussed when competing and now rather than saying, “I will try to ride better” I must now say, “I will ride better”. One workshop which attracted a lot of interest was that held by Alison Leach, a sports therapist who also offered sports massage sessions which filled up before I had even put my horse back in her stable! We were joined by Caroline Dickens, the Baileys Horse Feeds advisor. She brought her beautiful mare, Jazz, with her to participate on the camp but she never was too busy to offer feed advice to anyone who asked for it. The North West British Dressage Camp truly surpassed all expectations. The only problem was that it went far too quickly and I did not want the experience to end. See you all at the next camp! Although it was exhausting I can honestly say that I have never spent so much quality time and had so much fun with my horse. Ive already persuaded two friends to come next year! Kristy Lavin - Heathcroft Stud - Oct Hi - thought you may like some feedback on our recent visit to Heathcroft stud on our two day visit. The stud facilities were excellent and from the minute you drove thru the front gates you realised that Adrian ran a 'very tight ship'. Everything was spick and span - not a piece of straw or bit of pooh was out of place. The weather for our weekend was quite poor but we did everything we needed to do in the indoor - the Martin Collins surface was fab. Our flat work lessons with Tori were particularly good (we have a young horse so were not going to attempt much jumping) and we have arranged with her to carry on having lessons at her yard in Cheshire. Adrian made us feel very welcome and, to our surprise, had arranged a nice hot lunch on the Saturday afternoon. We opted not to have a jumping lesson on the second day and Adrian was very accommodating to our needs and he agreed that he would use this lesson to show us how to use (correctly) the Pessoa training aid. Many thanks for putting on this camp and I hope to attend other Active Rider camps in the new year - carry on the good work. Emma Whiting - October Active Horsecamp Michelle Corsi - October Active Horsecam Anna Kirkland - October Active Horsecamp Lynne Telfer - October Active Horsecamp All the facilities are excellednt at Somerford.
